eremos - diary of a (sort of) hermit

groundhog day

Today feels like many other days. I try my best to be a 'good' christian contemplative, with a focus on silent prayer and meditation, but these often clash with the reality of daily life, and, even when they don't, there is a tendency to look for things to distract me from it.

Sometimes this includes obvious things like something I want to watch on tv or a task I feel i should do. The worst of these though is the reading of books and articles ABOUT contemplative prayer and meditation; imagining myself as the person being discussed and using that as an excuse/reason for not doing the work myself.

Is it so hard, to set aside some time to be with God in silence? It really shouldn't be, and as I'm typing this, I am realising that this, in itself, is also an excuse not to pray. It isn't that I don't 'enjoy' prayer. Sometimes it can be a struggle, but other times it really feels like a step on the 'theosis ladder'

and with those thoughts, I will publish this blog and will finally start my morning meditation.
